Building Weather Damage Update

Dear HTEC Families,
Early this morning, when our facilities manager arrived on campus, he found that the heavy, wet snow coupled with high winds in the area last night caused a series of drainage pipes to malfunction. This affected the southern end of our building. Five HTEC classrooms have been impacted. For the remainder of the week, the impacted classes will be moved to alternative locations. Denver Public Schools is working closing with a restoration contractor to ensure that the rooms have been mitigated appropriately to eliminate any issue caused by this roof leak, including water removal, dehumidifying the areas, and ensuring they are free from mold or mildew in their entirety before students can return to the classrooms. This process takes a long time and the classrooms will remain closed from March 19 until March 30. Thankfully, we will be out of classes for spring break from March 26-30. The safety and health of our students and staff is of highest concern.
Thanks to Denver voters, funds from the voter-approved 2016 bond and mill levy will cover the cost of a new roof replacement, that will take place this summer, as well as other issues in our building that require immediate attention. Roof repairs are being made today, as the snow on the roof has been removed by our crew this morning. We are grateful for the quick work of our facilities manager and custodial crew as they work tirelessly on this issue. Also, a big shout out to our staff and students for being flexible as we identified alternative classroom locations in the building – so that they can continue their learning, as the PSAT and SAT are in 10 more school days. Signs are hung on each door to ensure that students know what classroom to report to throughout today and this week.

Estimadas familias de HTEC:
Esta mañana temprano, cuando nuestro gerente de instalaciones llegó al campus, se encontró con que la nieve pesada y húmeda y los fuertes vientos de anoche en la zona causaron desperfectos en varias tuberías de drenaje. Esto afectó al extremo sur de nuestro edificio y a cinco salones de clases de HTEC. Durante el resto de esta semana, las clases afectadas se mudarán a ubicaciones alternas. Las Escuelas Públicas de Denver están trabajando estrechamente con un contratista de restauraciones para asegurar que se reparen los salones de manera apropiada a fin de eliminar cualquier problema causado por las filtraciones en el techo, incluyendo remover el agua, deshumidificar las áreas y garantizar que estén completamente libres de moho antes de que se permita a los estudiantes regresar a los salones de clases. Este proceso toma un tiempo largo y los salones permanecerán cerrados entre el 19 y el 30 de marzo. Afortunadamente, entre el 26 y el 30 de marzo no tendremos clases debido a las vacaciones de primavera. Nuestra principal inquietud es la seguridad y salud de nuestros estudiantes y personal.
Gracias a los votantes de Denver, los fondos del bono 2016 y el impuesto sobre bienes raíces que aprobaron servirán para cubrir los costos de la instalación de un nuevo techo, que tendrá lugar durante este verano, y la resolución de otros problemas de nuestro edificio que requieren de atención inmediata. Hoy están reparando el techo porque esta mañana nuestra cuadrilla retiró la nieve que estaba sobre el mismo. Agradecemos a nuestro gerente de instalaciones y su cuadrilla de mantenimiento por su incansable trabajo para resolver este problema. Igualmente, reconocemos y apreciamos la flexibilidad de nuestro personal docente y estudiantes mientras encontramos salones alternativos en el edificio para que puedan continuar con su aprendizaje, en vista de que las evaluaciones PSAT y SAT se administrarán en unos 10 días más de clases. Se colocaron avisos en cada puerta para asegurar que los estudiantes sepan el salón de clases al que deberán reportarse durante el día de hoy y toda esta semana.
